I'm performing some electrical work on a 100 + year old house. The home currently has knob and tube, BX, and NM wiring running through out. All upstairs bedrooms have pull chains controlling the lights. The code indicates one of two things: switch controlling lights or a receptical. The inspector is requiring one or the other. My question is; based upon the age of the house, am I still required to install a switch to control the light or receptical. I would preferr not running wiremold.

The keywords in your post are "The inspector is requiring one or the other."
It becomes a local issue as to what requirements your particular inspection authority has adopted in regard to existing structures.
At this point I think your option is to work your way through the system to the AHJ.

Go Fish?

Hmm, house sounds like what my grandpa did when electricity came to town in 1914 and he upgraded the house he had built in 1907.

He pulled the linen/asphalt insulated wiring thru the gas light piping... of course, there were no gas valves on the walls, so he used pull chains at the lights.

When my brother finally re-did the house 3 years ago, he either fished new wires or had access as he tore most the cracked old plaster off the walls anyway.
