We are under the 2002 code, one of our Villages is going to have a grant to fix up homes, my question is if they put more outlets in the bed rooms, does that require them to make the bedroom arc-fault protected? I think the grant is threw the state or Hud. Most of the homes are over70 years old.

It has been my expierence, When you change any part of an electrical system, I have been required to bring that portion up to standard code. If you were just changing out an outlet, then I would say that the current wiring would be fine.

Anyone disagree????

Hello Gimpy. Depending on how much "fixing up" you are doing, you may be required to install smoke detedctors throughout the building, one of the VERY few retro-active aspects of the IRC. If that is the case, you will also need them to be AFCI protected. As far as the receptacles go, I would agree with iceman. Hope this helps.
