Old QO Panel

Good day people.

I have a QOC40MW225 square d loadcenter. I purchased a QO260CP double pole 60a breaker. The panel looks to be at least 40-50 years old. Seems to be in pretty good shape. I cannot get the breaker to snap into the bus. The other side snaps in fine. It’s like the grove on the bottom of the breaker isn’t deep enough. There are other double pole breakers in the panel but they do not have a readable part number. What am I missing? Are there only certain locations on the bus a DP breaker can be installed? Any advice would be appreciated.

The stab contacts look not spread equally. The side closer to your hand in the picture looks narrower.

One of the prongs may be hitting the face of the bus stab. You may need to spread it, but only a little.

Hmm. The fin doesn't fit in the gap? Can't compare height to depth in pics.

Maybe you can compare them if the outside of the cases is shaped the same.

The part number you are showing is for the loadcenter cover, not the bus bars.

QO breakers have had the same design since they came out in the late 50's. Since the mid 60's standard breakers could be mounted anywhere in the panel.

I would not use the breaker in your picture, as the bus bar connections no longer meet factory specs.
