I have an old bench grinder with a dual voltage 240/440 three phase motor with just 6 leads protruding from the housing. Our voltage we was running the motor on is 480 wye system. The motor leads is not labeled and there are three leads tied together and the three other leads are connected to each leg of the 480 line. i am wanting to connect the grinder on a 230 volt delta three phase line and wasn't sure wich leads i should ohm to find the correct connections. I have never seen a three phase motor with fewer than 9 leads. I was wondering if this motor was a 6 lead wye start/ delta run configuration? If this is the case i would wire for delta on low voltage right?

This link shows you the connections for a six lead motor. Generaly speaking as I remember and as it shows, with this type connection you have a voltage ration of 1.732 to 1. 480 V / 1.732 gives about 277. This takes you a bit on the high side of tolerance for a 230 V motor. If you decide to do this take note of your current draw. Is it at all possible this motor was rewound before and just changed to a single voltage motor?
