I am installing a new Service in a 35 year old home. The majority of the branch circuits are 3 wire circuits utilizing a common neutral, Example: Circuit 1 for the bedroom, 2 for the kitchen. What are the available solutions to protect the bedroom areas on these circuits, and how does the NEC deal with this application?

Re: Old Work Common Neutral AFCI Problems

The NEC is not retro-active and therefore does not require the AFCI's to be installed. I have heard there are some states that are considering, or already have, changed that to be required with a service change out. Does your state have any amendments to section 210.12?
