Look at the quality work I came across today. Some HACK was doing what he thought was wiring. this is one small example of what I came across in a kitchen remodel. Notice the bonding of the grounding conductors and how nice this remodel box was screwed to a stud and the drywall covers part of it. The only good part was there was plenty of slack in the wall for me to redo this box.

Hey, do you get EC&M. It's free. That looks like a perfect picture to send them. Don't forget to mention the gaps between the dry wall and the box.

here are a few more. I think a blind man could do a better job on bonding those grounds. notice the 14-2 in the one box oh that is a 18 CI box count the violations on this job and I don't know. sad thing is this guy did a whole bunch of "rewiring" in this home and the old wiring was likely 1000 times better than what he relaced it with. we spent 8 hours today just trying to make this a safe installation. don't talk about code compliant. I just want to get the homeowner safe. I can't see in the walls so I told them i would do my best to repair what I could and get them up and running. I HATE HACKS.

WTF! I have seen similar work, however, done by carpenters with no idea of code compliance, just a basic understanding of switching and receptacle ckts.

One of the challanges we all face is anyone can buy all the materials for home wiring at the big boxes stores. 20 years ago it was harder to find. Little is said about permits and inspections.

What I like is how Big Orange sells a nice selection of 200A panels, but the biggest wire size they sell is #1 copper, and that has to be special ordered. When I pointed out this inconsistency to one of the guys in the wiring department, he just shrugged.

Anytime i see them blue boxes i know im in for a fun day. While this is bad i too have seen far worse.

What is wrong with the BLUE boxes If the supply house is 20 miles away and the store is across the street I will go to the store for my supplies The customer pays for the material at cost plus so what differance does it make where it came from or what color it is.

Doing a remodel right now that all the new boxes are either netal 3-4-5-6 gang or the ! and 2 gang are blue.

Now that I have all the recessed cans set and wired they decided to suck all the insulation out of the attic and remove the drywall ceiling. so now I have to replace all those remodel cans with new construction cans don't you just love T&M jobs

Dude, the supply house i do most my business with stocks both Blue Boxes and Tan fiberglass. I PREFER the Blue. Hammer misses a fiberglass and it's toast. Half the time I try to move one after it's been nailed up - toast. There were 4 at the bottom of a case I bought last week - toast.

Whats even worse is when I know the stock & location of the materials @ Home Depot better than the employees.
Today I'm in there & some tinkerbell & his partner is looking for a gasket only for a weather proof receptacle, the employee goes to look for one. I had to tell them Depot don't sell them.
I have never had a problem finding 2/0 @ Depot. But its not in the electrical department... Its right outside the finance & loan department.
BTW its not the material that makes a good or bad job. Its the installer.
