Omni-Rupter vs Alduti-Rupter Switch

The Omnis are distribution switches good for up to 900A at 14 or 25KV.
The Aldutis are distribution switches good for up to 2400A at up to 65KV and probably cost more.
Different underlying design?

I guess- but you can get the Alduti in 900A 15 and 25kv class. Sierrasparky mentioned switching while under load- but from the descriptions it appears that both can do it?

My guess is that where you can use either the Alduti will be more expensive. Have you looked at prices?
 
Also, big difference is that Alduti encloses the arc while Omni has an externally exposed (open) arc?

Nope. That spec for Omni is just further down in the literature....

Nope. That spec for Omni is just further down in the literature....

That might be the actual difference then... But won't an external arc be more difficult to extinguish making live load breaking impractical?
