This question came up today at an IAEI meeting and I found it to be interesting:

Single family residence with a newly installed generator oversized on purpose by 60A just in-case they put an addition on the house. Well, instead they decided to build a barn on the property but with its own service.

Can the single generator serve both services and structures legally?

I believe so, but you'll need to wire the two transfer switches as master and slave, if I'm not mistaken, which means running control wires with the generator feeders.

For automatic transfer switches yes. Manual transfer switches just run line from generator to each switch.
