case transfer swich with sub panel bilt in I am picking the power from a sub panel the circuit that I am transfering 7 are from the main panel and 5 from the sub panel here is the question can I only move the hot wires from the main panel or I have to take the nuotrals too

don't the netrals for each circuit have to run in the same conduit as the hots? Would be difficult to do if you did not move the neutrals as well.

other than that, its an interesting question.

Re: only hot wires

You must in most cases bring the neutrals along with the hots.

This is required by 300.3(B) the only way around this is to use all non-metallic raceways or cables and follow the rules in 300.3(B)(3)

All circuit conductors are required to originate from the same panel board, arn't they?
Is this true? Anyone have a code reference?

As far as keeping them together for inductive heating, at least if you have the feeder to the subpanel and the lone hots in the same raceway it wouldn't be a problem. I don't fully understand the original post--is there one or two subpanels? But for a case with a subpanel with transfer switch added with a nipple connecting it to the main panel, the hots could be moved to breakers in the subpanel (going through the nipple) and if the feeder to the subpanel goes through the same nipple, even if metal conduit, the currents will cancel. But if the neutral is switched in the transfer switch the circuit neutrals would have to go to the subpanel to work at all on the generator. Is there a real code reference that prevents this (for the non-SDS case), such as Wayne's thought?
