I was wondering what the going rate should be to have someone come on site and train 5-10 electricians / engineers for their ceus for five hours at our site. Anyone have any experience with this? Sending 10 people to seminars for 10 hours each will be at least $2,000. I am wondering if it would be more cost effective to have someone come on site.

What kind of training are you talking about? If it is something common like code updates then you should be able to find something for less than that. Mikes home page has a place to find NEC trainers in your area.

We have always sponsored training on site. Brought the men in to the centrally located, comfy field trailer for continuing education.

As far as the "someone come on site" part, most of my costs were born by the sponsor. Some of the training companies charges are exhorbitant! But that was your OP.

Cost? Travel time plus the hourly rate, always charged to the project they were on at the time. Certaintly cheaper for me than a man's travel time and transportation, plus the sponsors rate.

Scope? Anywhere from 15kv splicing, trifurcating splices, load break elbows to BICC installation and termination (Cat V data). Even powder operated tool certification and Miller 250 TIG welding familiarization.

Best Wishes Everyone in 2008
