Has any one ever used the ooma phone system which is VOIP system. Apparently after the initial $200 they charge only Federal tax and state tax-- about $3.95 a month-- all calls free in the US.

I am specifically interested in the use of the 2 line system and the ability to use a fax.

The site says it can do all of this but I want real feedback. FWIW my cousin in NJ has it and loves it. This could be a great cost saver for the business lines and house line-- I pay over $100.00 a month now and this would get me down to $14.00 a month plus initial setup.

It is available at costco and amazon

I have had no real experience with these systems but I have a customer that loves hers. The only down side to it is the 911 service. Most cannot show 911 a physical address for responders. I was told this is why the change in the 08 code to install at least 1 hardwired phone line.

In their info they say 911 is not a problem.

The 911 location info that it sends the the PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) is the information that you provide them when you register your system. If you move the the system and do not tell them your new location, it will not send the PSAP you new location. This is the same with any of the networked phone systems. There should be no issue as long as you keep your location information current with the phone service provider. I am not sure how the networked phone system knows exactly what PSAP to send your 911 call to. I guess they would have to check the address with the local emergency services to find out that information. Sending it to the wrong PSAP will delay the emergency response. In some areas, opposite sides of the street are sent to different PSAPs.

Have you checked Magic Jack. It is only $19.95 per year. operates over the Internet. I am not sure if they support 2 lines at once though. Magic jack has great reviews from PC Magazine
id it was not for the fact that I have comcast bundled service, phone, Internet & cable. if I were to shut my phone line off it would would be the same prices as I have for there bundle. I have to say comcast rates are not as good as they used to be.
