There are some applications where I have seen in a Class 1, Div. 1 or 2, Group D location where there is a NEMA 7 junction box, with a conduit terminate to it. However, the other side of the conduit is just open to the environment and used as a sleave to run a cable to the junction box.
It seems to me that having an open pathway for gases to travel inside the box shouldn't be allowed, but at same time I can't find in the code where it says the conduit in the same space as the box can't just have an open end to it.
So, is this allowable per the NEC?
