My friend the A/C guy was over yesterday and he was relating a story about one of his tech's getting a pretty healthy shock from the outside case of an A/C compressor unit at a residence. My friend went to the site after the shock and disconnected the CB's to all the A/C equipment. The voltage was still there. He assured me that the unit was properly grounded. I told him that this was most likely an open/loose neutral on the service. Two questions:
1) Is this the only possible cause?
2) Someone here once posted a good diagram to illustrate the effect of an open service neutral. I had a hard time explaining this to my friend. Does anyone still have the diagram that they could post? I tried the search, but no avail.
Thanks,
Mark
