Does anyone know section of code that deals with open shelters? its for a flea market. They use tarps between the posts they let down if weather is bad. There will be a recep 4 ft high on the inside of the 8x8 posts. Im sure they need GFI but not sure if need weather prof boxes and covers.

Why wouldn't they need WP covers, and if surface mounted outside, why wouldn't they need WP boxes.

not exactly outside

not exactly outside

For the box to get wet the rain would have to get in between the tarps around the 8x8 posts and back to the center of the inside of the posts. Im not trying to argue I just want some feed back on what to use.

A tarp tied to a 8x8 post isn't what I would consider a permanent structure.

The question is whether this is a wet, damp, or dry location. Discuss it with the AHJ, but I would enforce it as wet location.

I was hinting towards what J and 480 said, but I guess the OP didn't get it:grin:

If it's outside, then back to what I said: Why not

They let the tarps down if raining but 406.8 explains it, I will need weather proof box and covers even if only damp location. I dont know how they passed inspection on the existing sheds. They just have metal handy boxes and metal covers but the breakers are GFI. One building has only been there a couple of years.

My point exactly. A flea market isn't going to be there forever, especially if it's north of the Mason-Dixon line. Heck, they may only be there only certain days of the week. The recep would be exposed then.
