anyone use the tay mac stuff? bubble covers, flat covers, boxes... all their covers are '12 in 1' or whatever where you clip pieces in or break pieces out depending on the configuration you need. I guess its handy as you only need to stock one cover, but i just tried out one of their flat metal outdoor covers, it comes as a duplex so to make it fit a decora device you have to break some pieces out. This leaves the opening looking like you took a sawzall to it. The boxes, im on the fence...theyre from china and you can tell. Nothing terribly wrong with them that i could notice, but they just didnt seem as good as a Bell or RedDot. Anyone else have an opinion on this stuff?

Stupid orange and blue box carry the new taymac single gang WP switch with plates now... Used to carry red dot. The red dot ones were way easier to install.

yeah thats a whole nother rant. the big boxes are slowly replacing the good product with chinese stuff. With the tay mac, theyre keeping the prices the same and restocking the shelves with product thats costing them less. Everyone things the margins at the big boxes arent much, but they make 30 to 50% on the chinese electrical stuff. It wont be long before the leviton is gone and replaced with ghanzou electric and faucet works receptacles and GFIs from that guy in florida who got drunk and crashed his lambo.

Which is fine, once they replace stuff the contractors are in buying, they will notice their income drop drastically. I usually spend at least $500 there every visit I make.

I had 2 free samples of the flat in use cover. I used them and they work pretty well. Who knows how long they will last. Here is the cover closed and expanded.

FYI Intermatic and Reddot still make the metal bubble covers, which only work in the direction in which they are made. I like this type better since the HO does not have to fight with the plastic clip thingy, which always seems to flummox some of them.

I have not been impressed by any in use cover of any brand that is made of plastic.

The only ones that I really like are the all-metal covers by RedDot/T&B.

I've had good luck with those by cutting the bar through the center screw-hole with dikes first, then bending each half along the scored line with pliers. Then I break out the corners with dikes along the shorter straight edge and bend with pliers.

I received them, also. They had paper labels glued onto the backside in a way that made it clear they didn't want us to be able to use them. I peeled them clean anyway, just out of spite.

They remind me of the accordion 'gaskets' between passenger-train cars.
