I was hiking in a forest preserve Saturday and an evil thought occurred to me as I walked through the campground.

There are several distribution enclosures scattered throughout the campground to supply power to the individual camp sites.

It would seem logical that each camp site would have its own CB to prevent someone who did not pay for electricity from using it, the CB probably being inside the locked enclosures.

I wonder if anyone ever did an arc flash study on these things. I did not see a sign on the enclosures. I also wonder if anyone ever trained the campground host on the proper use of PPE when turning the CBs on/off and whatever other training might be required to operate these CBs.

I am tempted to email the FP district and ask them, but I am afraid of the answer I might get.

Interesting thought. But as you're probably walking through a federal or state run campground then you need to account for the government exclusion provisions in law.

My company bid on (but did not win) a design project at a campground last summer. The existing campsite power pedestals had 20 and 30 amp breakers and receptacles, with a lockable cover. None were locked, even at the vacant campsites. Please see the attached photo. I don?t think that lifting the lid constitutes an activity for which an arc flash hazard would exist.

Have a job coming up with an existing trailer that has one of these panels, but it's had no power for a few years and the panel is shot. What do I call a panel like the one pictured? Who makes them? Thanks

I would call it a "power pedestal." There are many manufacturers. I suggest an Internet search for "power pedestal campground," so you don't start off looking through the marina versions.

The way the campground I was walking thru is configured there is no CB at each site, only a receptacle. There are large enclosures scattered throughout the campground that I am guessing have some kind of PB in them with a CB to feed each of the camp sites.

Try Midwest Products. Milbank.
