We have a 25kw gen set to install that will be taking care of the whole service. We have a 400amp service with a ct can on the exterior of the building and underground service entrace conductors to the disconnect inside the building.
We would like to install the 400 amp transfer switch next to the ct can and then go with the underground into the building. My question is do we need a service disconnect between the ct can and the transfer switch. Artical 230.82(5) seems to indicate we do not.

Thank You

Re: Optional Standby System

The transfer switch would have to be service rated and it would become the service disconnect. The service OCPD would have to be installed at the transfer switch.

Let us not forget that this is also the point where the neutral and EGC are to be bonded, and beyond which they must remain separate.
