Anyone have any bright ideas on replacing these? At first I was thinking of just bypassing the ballast and using a LED bulb, but as you can see the lenses are all burnt and cracked. Thought about just buying new ones if I Could still find them and rob the lens, bypassing the ballast.........They are RUUD, are they still around? I couldnt find crap on the web. They are 9" in diameter. Suggestions?

I knew the name seemed familiar......water heaters. possible to switch out completely with a "decorative" disc covering the 9" hole? hard to tell what they are mounted to.

Any budget or lead time limitations? Lumen package needed?

And since the housing is pretty well concealed unless you're directly below and looking up, are you open to using a smaller diameter fixture? 9" housings are going to cost a premium compared to 4" or 6" options, and it looks like you don't really need all that much output out of them.

Having said that, the CY9 from ConTech should be able to take care of your needs and is very economical for a 9" diameter. Damp location standard for ceiling mount, with adder option to make it wet listed if desired.

So they might over a recessed box, specifically a 4 SQ with a round mud ring. I don't mind a little paint touch up.

Yeah I agree we don't really need that many lumens.

Oh I just had an idea, how about one of those 6" can like trims that mounts over a box?

Thanks for the suggestion in the CY9, I'll take a closer look at it

RUUD made cheap builder-grade major appliances 40 years ago, but none of them lasted for more than 10 years. Maybe they're still doing the same thing.

How are the lenses supported? Are they a standard size at all? You might look through the Satco catalog and see if they have anything to replace it with. Here's the Glassware and Shades section. Or if those lenses are just acrylic, you could cut new circles out of acrylic panels, or see if you can find someone selling custom circular cuts of acrylic.

Ruud Lighting was a lighting company found and run by Alan Ruud in the early 80's. They specialized in all types of HID fixtures, poles, etc. They also had incandescent fixtures, including recessed, track lighting and some landscape lighting. They sold directly to contractors.

I did alot of business with them in the 80's and 90's. You could call their phone number and get a customer service human right away. They could transfer you directly to a design engineer that would help you do layouts and spec fixtures. They would also custom build poles as needed. No dealing with suppliers lighting department or Manufactures reps.

Sometime around 2011 Cree acquired the company to build LED products and killed off the original company's products and services.

This company did NOT make applainces or HVAC equipment.
