I have 5 older Square D LIM's with analog meters on them. While in the normal position they are all around 1mA. When you push the test button, they go into alarm around 6.2mA. The meter continues to 7mA. The owner is concerned that the alarm does not go off at the 5mA threshold. Is there a way to calibrate these needles or unit or is what normally happens when you push the test button? I do not have equipment to put a 5mA load on it to see what happens. I've searched the internet for them, but cannot find any information. They were installed in 1985. Square D part number IGD-120-5A.

Any insight from someone whose dealt with these would be great.

Unless you have access to some BIO MED test equipment you should contact SQ D and let them take care of it with their service division. There is a very good possibility that it may just be a calibration issue but you would need the proper equipment to compare the LIM against and make the calibration. You wouldn't want to be held liable if something went wrong on a procedure table.

I have to agree with Roger, although it could also be an independent contrator that specializes in Isolated Power Systems. (I think the last guy we used was recommended by Square D, and had once worked for them.)

NFPA 99 requires some specialized testing anytime the isolated power system is modified. And someone who specializes in this will have the necessary test equipment, and will know which measurements need to be documented.

Got hold of Square D. They said they're garbage and need replacing, because the should hit 7mA immediately and you shouldn't be able to tell with the naked eye when it goes into alarm.

Thanks for the help.
