Can you purchase a duplex receptacle orange in color that is not an IG receptacle. I have a client who wants to utilize orange receptacle for as a visual indicator from a specific system not necessarly isolated ground. however someone indicated it is a code violation to have an orange receptacle that is not isolated ground. Is this accurate I have been looking but cannont find any such code article orange tape for a high leg but thats it. so does such code exist? can you purchase an orange non-ig receptacle?

I see no reason why you cannot simply use an IG receptacle. Where does it say that using one for this purpose is a violation?

You can get a lot of different colored rec. depending on your lead time . any reason for the orange or is just something your customer saw

I woudln't use an isolated grounding outlet for anything other than an isolated grounding system.

Could you use special colored plates?
Be inconspicuous and flip the duplex upside down?
But orage dots and dot each receptacle?
Buy a labler?
grey devices?

see if you can just use Red.....customer might even like it better. I bet he saw orange receptacles on the cash registers at Macys or something and wants them.

if the customer wants orange rec. and since the usage does not create a code violation...use orange:grin:don't try to change the customers mind!

good point. (until the next electrician to work on the system goes around telling everyone about the hack with the miswired IG receptacles) sell them on red

Orange does not denote IG this is a misconception, the triangle denotes IG. The orange is an industry standard, easier identification. You can buy a plain old orange duplex receptacle. Leviton makes just about every color you could want.

You could always use the IG receptacles if they're more readily available, and put a jumper between the box and the receptacle.

You said it twice and I had the same thought but sometimes peopl skip over it. I have seen several IG receps in colors other than orange....That all have the triangle.

Hospital grade, IG, and Media Grade WHITE

What ever color receptacle you decide on, just remember to install them"ground up"!!:D

It is hard to keep a straight face when the customer tells you the previous electrician sold them on rotating all his duplex recepts 180*.:D Should I put any new recpts the same for consistency's sake?

I'm installing around 15 orange IG duplex recpts in a customer's residence by request, even though these are dedicated circuits in non-metallic conduit and boxes. Therefore, the ground is isolated by default of the wiring method and not because of some fancy green triangle device. Some customers like orange and green...:rolleyes:

Technically speaking, you might create a violation: the receptacle yoke will be isolated with a non-metallic wiring method.
