Re: Ordering Material on-line

The few experiences I have had were all bad.

The main exception to that is Ruud lighting and their low cost brand, E-conolight. They have been great.

Re: Ordering Material on-line

I tried to mail order supplies about 8 years ago. I still have 2 boxes of single 220 v 15 amp receptacles both Ivory and White traveling around with me in my van. What I ordered were 120 volt 15 amp receptacles. Its a reminder of why I don't mail order any more.

Re: Ordering Material on-line

Very few of my experiences have been good. Bought several cases of what were represented to be red Buchannan B-Caps that turned out to be Chinese lookalikes. Bought some weatherproof boxes with 1/2" hubs that turned out to be 3/4" hubs with a bunch of 3/4 x 1/2 bushings thrown in. Bought several cases of GFCI's that turned out to be the old (non "safe lock") style. Bought a bunch of EMT fittings that had locknuts so weak that they would split just hand tightening them (Topaz brand). These experiences have frustrated me just enough that I never buy by mail anymore without an exact manufacturer and part number. I've had pretty good luck buying surplus breakers, and have saved a ton of cash.

Re: Ordering Material on-line

I did get good deals on FS box's and a few other things, Its the $5 GFCI's that were defective that you have to install twice, and the case of things that you only need one a year of that kill the mail order dealings.

Re: Ordering Material on-line

If you guys are talking about Sunstar Lighting, I agree totally. I will NEVER use that place, unless it is one of the real brands like Carlon or Klein tools.

But all their house brand stuff is absolute junk. And in many cases their "low cost lighting" and supplies are more expensive than Home Depot.

Re: Ordering Material on-line

I've wasted more money in the form of time shopping than I saved by shopping. The nearest store to the job gets my business. If something is that hard to find, I get an extra one when I buy one.

Re: Ordering Material on-line

Here is one that is great for us:
http://www.electrical-supply.net/index.asp

It is really the Garvin company which has been around for about 100 years. They have more in their catolog then online. If you get a catolog you can type the number to find somthing not listed. They invited us to a holiday party. Gave us 5 gallon buckets a let us loose in the wharehouse to take free samples. And they had beer, food, + prizes. They said they make products for other companys. Hubbell happened to be next door.

Dale electric supply has been good. Barnett is ok.

Right. I have installed some E-conolight HID's. Well pleased.
