Hello out there. Well this is why I join this field because there is a never ending amount of knowledge involved with it. This website is something else!!!! I will be testing for my PJ test in a week in a half and have studied Mike Holt's book for the last 9 months at school. I have in the last week taken serveral of Mike's on line test's and have committed on spending endless hours to try to make my test successful. I know that there are 52 questions and 3 hours to complete which I have done successfully at school but this is the real deal! My question is has anyone taken the exam lately and what area's caught you off guard? I know it's a couple thousand test based questions that are chosen from. just reading over the other post's is way to much brain food. Thanks in advance for your info and time to spread your knowledge. Back to testing and the other forum post's.

What is the test format? What can you bring into the test ex. caclulator, code book, ect? This may sound stupid but what does PJ stand for? In Ca we have res elect, and gen elect J-mans exam, fire/safety, Non residential lighting and contractor C-10. General covers it all execept contractror test.

I think that the more you study the less you realize you don't know and it causes more stress than nessacary. When I took the my Gen j-mans exam I had studied quite a bit I was less sure about passing it before I took it than before I studied. I blew through the thing no problem and passed with a 90%. The reality is that most study guides are harder than the test. If you have spent the time to study you shouldn't have any problem.

If you post the test format and what you can bring or what they will provide I am sure the people on this board will be able to help out. If it is like CA you can't bring any thing in, they provide a code book, calculator, pencil and some blank paper, also they will give you a few paperclips if you ask but they wouldn't let me bring my own.

Thanks for the reply. PJ Is oregon's LTD Journeyman Manufactured Plant. The general and PJ take the same 52 question test in 3 hour time limit. I have heard of some people taking it without practice and doing fine. It is an open book test. I'll stick to the practicing until test time and see how that goes. Thanks for your time.

Open book meaning? Bring your own code book or supplied code book, other referance books? If you can bring your own I think the tabs would work good if not ask for paper clips to mark some sections and charts it will help you navigate faster. Answer all the questions you know first then go back to the ones you don't. Don't spend too much time on any one question untill you have all the others answered. I have heard of too many people running out of time before they even had a chance look at all the questions, every question is worth only one point. My test seemed to get easier the further I got in to the test.

If you study you will be fine. Good Luck
