I've managed to pass the first part (all code related) of the Oregon Supervisor's test and I've been studying like a possesed fool for the second and final part (all calculations). Yup, my wife is just about ready to can me. I'm scheduled to take part two next tuesday! Any last minute suggestions or advice?

Spend the first minute or two looking over the test, and find a few questions that you are sure you can answer quickly and correctly. Do them first. It is best to go into the rest of the test with a few successes behind you. It will give you a greater confidence in your ability to succeed with some of the harder questions. Good luck.

Make sure you bring a back-up calculator, and make sure you are familiar with its functions and use.

Make sure you bring extra writing utensils and a ruler. I prefer a 7" ruler as it is exactly the width of the tables in the NEC. A magnifying glass would not be a bad idea either if there are questions that refer to a plan or blueprint.

Follow Charlie's advise, it is good!

Remember that most wrong answers are due to common mistakes such as mis-use of the calculator, improper transfer of numbers from the calculator to your paper, rounding-off the wrong way, and the little things like forgetting to add 25% or applying a demand factor.

If you get to a question that you simply can't figure out, try the process of elimination to better you odds on a guess. Sometimes it is easier to work the questions backwards starting with the answer first.

Thanks fellas for the suggestions; I didn't think of the backup calculator one so I got that one taken care of. I'll keep ya posted as to how it went if you're interested.

We're interested. We like to post balloons and cheers, when someone passes a major exam. :)

Here to wish you luck on the calculation part 2.
I to passed the first part code questions based on 2005.Pretty easy. I took the calculation part with a 6 week supervisor prep course and a year of studying and did not pass.
I felt very comfortable with calculations going in . I failed the test. The test is tricky and is not realistic as you would normaly be studying for. Ive spent over a year preparing for this. Make sure you really read the question through as it is like a story problem, with the Oregon twist.
Good luck.

Thanks for the kind words and insight. I just got back from taking part two and I have no idea how anyone could pass a test like that with only two hours to take it. I encountered very tricky wording and a series of calculations which would blow your mind. I too spent countless hours and almost $2000.00 in training and classes, I hold a degree in electronics engineering, and I have almost 15 years of experience in this trade and while I certainly do not claim to know it all, I know that the pass rate on part two of the Oregon Supervisor's exam is extremely low. All I can do now is wait for the results.

Wow! I did better than I thought; I managed to pass with an 83! Whew, what a freaking relief. Without sounding like just received an Oscar, there are some thank you's to go around; first and foremost, I would like to recognize the Lord, God almighty who allowed me to concentrate and think clearly, secondly I would like to thank Fred Simmons who, I believe, is the foremost NEC expert in the state of Oregon and who has taught me more about the code than anyone I can think of. Of course, there's a big shout out to my wife who suffered through my many hours of studying and me being grouchy. Last, but of course not least, are the individuals on this forum who have enlightened and educated me and allowed me to participate and ask questions. Pardon me while I go run 500 miles!
