We are in the process of yet again ripping apart our Transit 150 and trying to get a better layout for it. We currently have a 60” long 4 tier shelf along the driver side and a 42” along the passenger side. They are really too wide to organize properly for us. Most of our jars and bottles are only 8-14” deep. I was thinking of getting some heavy duty wire baskets and mounting them to the side of the van. My thoughts were it is a totally customizable system and will not cost an arm and a leg. I do not want to spend a ton of money on this upfit. Anyone have any suggestions that DO NOT INCLUDE WOOD. I refuse to have wooden shelves in my van. I have never seen any wooden units that will stand up to abuse and the elements.

Yes your right I would like a fully customizable without paying for it. The “jars” I’m reffering yo are jugs of wire nuts, connectors, screws etc. I should have used a better word, sorry.

For what it's worth,
I started using clear 1 and 2 gallon plastic bags in my shelves for a lot of my smaller stock items. It has worked out fine so far.

So champagne taste with a beer budget? That's a tall order. There's no such thing as good AND cheap.

I have Adrian steel in my van. My suggestion is to not cheap out. Good van innards are an investment.

These boxes/totes work real well.
I used one for 6years as a daily tool box/tote and it held up remarkably well.

the sheet metal shop made me some aluminum shelves, Basically a U_bend 1" X 12" X 1"
Then used 2in strapping to hang from ceiling to floor to rivit shelves to the "stiles".

I also had some thick metal stud base channels (ripped in half by supplier) to
for brackets and braces.
I would add a pic ....but... van is to full..

I have also installed a 4 ft PACK_RAT , laid over a 10ft pipe rack that also has slots to slide (6) nut/bolt bins into.

It is installed at the rear doors pushed into the cargo area far enough to allow room for tool boxes.

The bins easily pull in/out/remove.

One of my vans uses stainless steel commercial wire shelving like the kind you see in kitchens. The shelves are turned upside down so there is a lip to keep stuff from falling off. The back of the shelf is also 1" lower than the front. I use 3/4" plywood uprights (the width of the shelves) with heavy "L" brackets to support the shelves. The uprights run floor to ceiling and are cut to fit the profile of the van. They are attached with L brackets floor and ceiling as well. The shelves are zip tied to the L brackets. This arrangement is very strong and quiet. I fill the shelves with plastic bins from U-LINE.
