Has anyone been involved in getting their company OSHA VPP Star certified? If so was it a difficult and long process?

Interesting read, Thanks, it seems like a yearly and a mentor program.
But in answer to your question seems like there is not one dirrect answer.

From another article dated 10.27.99

That stated OSHA opening up the program

OSHA Extends VPP Eligibility, Requirements

In addition to previously required injury data, OSHA will require participants to report illness rates and numbers. Star participants' injury and illness rates now must be below industry averages, rather than "at or below." With some exceptions, Merit participation will be limited to three years so those sites will work to achieve Star status during that time. An alternate method for calculating incidence rates will help small businesses qualify for the Star program.

I was hired toward the end of what was a very long and tedious process of becoming a vpp star site according to the management of the plant. This was in 96. For we electricians it only meant jumping through a lot of hoops with material and regulations but I understand management had a ball with it.
Whole thing looked like a joke to me. The plant that I came from had 500% better safety policies but got nailed by OSHA all the time. This plant was a star site.
