Hi, I work at a quarry with two asphalt plants as a maintenance electrician. One problem we have here is that other trades, and even some of the supervisors, seem to want to be electricians, and even think that all the trade involves includes only programming of drives, and all of the latest automation gadgetry. They even enjoy messing with the electrical gear when they think no one is watching. It is annoying at the least, and life threatening at the worst. Do any other electricians encounter this at work? I would like to know if this is a widespread phenomenon, as it speaks volumnes to the way our work is viewed by others.

they probably think the same about other trades as well.

I had the same issue at the Co-Gen Plant I work at until I convinced my Supervisor and Foreman to help me put a stop to it. The most important reason is safety but completely unqualified workers would tinker around with circuits, loops and equipment that would make critical processs systems unreliable and/or trip off. It also made troubleshooting systems a nightmare for my crew.

I have spent my whole career in industrial facilities all over the world, yes this is pretty common and goes both ways.
