Other than Electrical wiring in conduit

I would like to know if I was installing some low voltage equipment and I used a chase conduit upwards and then route Plenum rated cabling if I could place a poly tube within the conduit to get a sensing line into the controller?

Assuming I did not overfill the conduit, of course.

If I cannot, can someone direct me to the applicable NEC article?

Thanks

Re: Other than Electrical wiring in conduit

This question has come up before concerning jails, they run pneumatic tubing with LV all the time. I orginially thought no, I asked Mike Holt, he seemed to think it was allowed under 725.3, the orginal poster was going to ask NFPA.
But lacking a concrete answer, I would say no.

Tom,
Good point. I forgot about 725.3. As long as the electrical circuit is an Article 725 circuit or is covered by Chapter 8, then 300.8 does not apply.

Re: Other than Electrical wiring in conduit

The install would have a mixed bag of stuff that would be going through a single conduit,

analog phone line

Dry contact/binary input (3-5 vdc) in plenum rated cable to a Metasys VAV digital controller

multiple O2 sensors 12vdc 4-20ma inputs to a gas analyzer to monoitor atmospheric oxygen level only.

So would all of these qualify for the Art. 725?

Would the next to safest be t be to ask the electrical inspector that serves my area?

I am in Washington State near Tacoma.

Thanks to all for posting your comments.

IMO this would not be easy to accomplish as far as code issues. 725.3, 725.52 would have to be complied with. With the types of conductors you have, that would not be possible. A raceway installed inside a raceway does not comply with 725.52

Why don't you install the second raceway next to the power conductors, instead of inside of it?

Re: Other than Electrical wiring in conduit

I guess I confused a couple of things, but I have decided not to take a chance, run the poly air sampling lines in a conduit as a entrance from insie the building to the exterior mounted box and the low voltage items into a second raceway and my powered circuits (120vac) into a third conduit.

Wow, what an excercise for the brain.
Isn't this a great place to learn?

Thanks all,
Bud
