One of the buildings on a campus site currently has outdoor fiberoptic network communications cabling installed/layed in a length of inverted Unistrut above and across the roof of one of the buildings approximately 1 foot above the roof. The owner wishes to lay additional outdoor fiberoptic communications cabling in that same length of unistrut across the roof. The unistrut provides support and protection of this cable as required by Article 770. However, some state that this installation is not code compliant since the unistrut is not a listed raceway and cited Article 384.6.
Simply put can the unistrut be viewed as simply a support mechanism in this application or must it be viewed as raceway and thus required to be listed?
