how many of you electricians out there are installing disconnects in addition to the breakers on the generators themselfs?700-12 (b)(6) in 08 nows refers you back to 225.6 regarding the disconnect.

The additional disconnect is not required if the onboard "readily accessible" disconnecting means is within sight of the building or structure and meets the requirements of 225.36, "suitable for use as service equipment".

outdoor generators

Roger-
You are correct, this is my point-you will find that generator manufactures can not or more likley will not make the breakers on the gen sets, readily available, within site, nor have the SUSE,rating. There are ALOT of installations of outdoor generators where the installers will wire to the brk on the gen set without a SUSE disc.means,I beleive this is a common wiring method that continually happens without being inforced to be code compliant.

Depending on the specs and design, I will put a generator bid out with these items specified to be incorporated in the package.

701.11-B.5 and 702-11 also require this for outdoor generators.
