Question: Does a outdoor hot tub need a disconnect as per 680.12? and does it need a gen purpose receptacle as per 680.22(3)? This is to be installed at a single family residence outside on a deck. Also this is a manufacture home if that matters. Thanks

Re: outdoor hot tub installation

This would need a disconnect and a receptacle. The rules for pool installatins apply to hot tubs as well.

Re: outdoor hot tub installation

As I indicated in the Electrical Knowledge Forum, one is required to install a receptacle as per 680.43(A) which has different distance requirements than 680.22(A)(3).

That outlet must be greater than 5 feet away from the hot tub, but less than 10 feet. Pools require an outlet a minimum of 10 feet away to a maximum of 20 feet.

Let?s slow down a little and look at just what we are talking about.

You have stated that this receptacle MUST conform to 680.43(A) so let?s look at your referral

680.43 Indoor Installations.
(A) Receptacles. At least one 125-volt, 15- or 20-ampere receptacle on a general-purpose branch circuit shall be located not less than 1.5 m (5 ft) from, and not exceeding 3.0 m (10 ft) from, the inside wall of the spa or hot tub.
Well it looks like you did pretty good EXCEPT your receptacle is for an indoor installation. The original post says that this tub is out side so therefore these rules apply.

680.42 Outdoor Installations.
A spa or hot tub installed outdoors shall comply with the provisions of Parts I and II of this article

680.22 Area Lighting, Receptacles, and Equipment.
(A) Receptacles.
(2) Other Receptacles, Location. Other receptacles shall be not less than 3.0 m (10 ft) from the inside walls of a pool.

(3) Dwelling Unit(s). Where a permanently installed pool is installed at a dwelling unit(s), no fewer than one 125-volt 15- or 20-ampere receptacle on a general-purpose branch circuit shall be located not less than 3.0 m (10 ft) from, and not more than 6.0 m (20 ft) from, the inside wall of the pool.
As Scott was kind enough to point the answers to the original poster?s questions are as follows:
