i'm looking for a fixture for outdoor lighting, and the customer wants
CFL's for energy efficiency. home desperate has plastic fixtures that
mount on a 1/2" NPT stem, and use a CFL instead of a 300w. halogen.

the lens on these measure about 6" by 8". i was wondering if anyone
here has something they have installed that is a better quality than
these... they are a bit cheesy, and prone to generating trouble calls.

anyway, any help is always appreciated.
thanks.

Made by US Fluorescent? Ballasts are sealed, so there's no changing them. Once they crap out, you get to buy a whole new fixture.

Of course, by then, they will have changed their design & style, so today's model will no longer match.

Randy, I put up a couple of those fixtures from HD for a homeowner
a couple of months ago and she has been pretty happy with them.
We have had some below zero nights here as well.I do agree they
are pretty cheesy in appearance and feel.

I have run into US Fluorescent lights before where the sealed ballast at the base has two holes run thru the base for mounting purposes, that are just about a 16" of an inch wider than any typical fixture bracket threaded holes.(I mean the 3-1/2" spread apart holes.) Even the circular universal mounting plates did not work out good. Anybody else run into this?
