Is a receptacle outlet(15A/120V GFCI) required on a screened lania/porch area of a single family dwelling? No pool is present and there are weather-proof receptacle outlets in the front and rear of the house per [210.52(E)].

Re: Outdoor Outlets

Only one in the front and one in the back is required. But I would definitely reccomend one on a screened porch. :)

Re: Outdoor Outlets

I agree not required, but this article brings up a question. How close to the front or back is at the front and back of dwelling ? I have seen these receptacles installed on the side of the house near the front and rear corners. To me these would still be at the front and the rear and are not required to be physically on the front and the rear of the house. My question is how far back from the front or rear on the side of the house is still at the front or the rear?

Re: Outdoor Outlets

While the NEC does not say on, it does say located at the front and back of the dwelling.

at CORE MEANING: a preposition used to indicate general position or location.

IMHO they were pretty clear of the location by declaring back, they did not mention at or near the rear of the dwelling.

at = general position or location.
back = defined location.

Re: Outdoor Outlets

Let's look at this from another perspective. Illumination for equipment being serviced in the attic. at or near Would an access with a light above the access hole 100ft away be at or near the equipment to be serviced?
