For a propane powered 47 KW generator, installed outside on a pad:
Is there a minimum distance from the regulator (on the feed line from the tank) to the generator - IE a fuel gas code requirement for the regulator to be a certain distance from combustion sources?

Every one I've ever done, the regulator was always mounted right on the generator...

Most places the only regulation is for the valve that tank is filled from. Has to be 5' from combustible sources . (A/C comp. , outlets. lighting etc. )

There is also codes for the tank itself but they vary by type and size of tank.

Regulator is always right next to generator

OK next question
Could the regulator be installed inside the generator housing with the relief valve piped to the exterior?
This is for security.

People are stealing propane now? The generators I install are way to small to allow it, but I'm sure it would be a listing violation anyhow ... :)

Make sure you need an external one. I've installed some Generacs with an internal regulator that must be re-set for LPG or NG, along with the carburetor setting.
