When do I have to use a bubble outdoor receptacle cover plate. When I have nothing plugged into the receptacle a standard weatherproof cover plate is enough? Or I have to use a bubble cover anytime the receptacle is exposed to direct contact with the rain? Can you answer my question Thank you.

Re: Outdoor recepticle covers

Take a look at 406.8.

The real question you have to answer is whether the location is "damp" or "wet".

Re: Outdoor recepticle covers

And chances are, it's wet. If you think it's damp, the AHJ is going to think it's wet. I put an in-use cover on and forget about it.

NEC-2005 406.8(A) ...and will not be subject to a beating rain or water runoff.
Don't neglect the importance of those 12 little words. :)
