480:208/120 112.5 KVA 3ph transformer outside a residence.

What kind of NEMA enclosure is needed? Electrician spec'ed a 3R but transformer supplier thinks it must be fenced in.

If 3R is ixnay, what is the correct cabinet, and who sells such?

NEMA 3R refers to out doors and has nothing to do with being fenced in or not.

However, the common NEMA 3R enclosure may have to be protected by being fenced, Thats where the term "tamper resistance" comes into play such a that of a pad mount transformer.

After back & forth with the AHJ, they seem willing to accept a 3R case but we might look at 4 or 12's.

They were initially freaking out at 480/277 feeding a residence at all, but now are OK with a panel in the basement next to the 280/120. They would even allow the transformer as well, but no one wants it there.

I credit the local electrician for this victory.

They will not allow 480 motors inside, but they are all going in the attached pool's equipment room or at the well.
