Re: outlet height

Well, we installed the boxes 12" to bottom off the floor in a commercial building and the inspector (New Mexico) stated minimum was 15". I checked the code and nowhere does it state minimum height.

Re: outlet height

15" is the minimum allowed by ADA requirements.

If the building has to meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) the inspector is correct.

Re: outlet height

Bob is right. If you are in a state that doesn't recognize the ADA, such as Utah and many, many others, 15" is still the minimum, according to the ANSI A117.1-98

Re: outlet height

We have a builder that specs 10 in center for receptacles and 36 in center for switches.Unless an ADA project height is not a requirement.Receps as long as within NEC guidelines as required receps whats the problem ?Just dont go above the max height and all is good!!

Re: outlet height

Even with ADA requirements, Jeff is right.

For sake of conversation, if a floor receptacle was needed under a conference table, would it not be allowed by ADA.

BTW, if the receptacle can be accessed from the side of a Wheelchair 9" is allowed by ADA?

Figure 6(b)
High and Low - Side Reach Limits

The 30 by 48 inch wheelchair clear floor space is located a maximum 10 inches (255 mm) from the wall.

Re: outlet height

As I understand the requirements of the Act it specifies that receptacles are accessible, it does not require all receptacles to be accessible. So as long as the minimum number of outlets are provided in an accessible fashion floor boxs are alowed.
