outlet splice

I was wondering if someone could help me with something. A master electrician on the job where I was working and he woould strip the ends of the wire and would put line nuetrol on one screw and load wire on the other screw. So the question is... Can you use the outlet as a ...well for a lack of btter word a wirenut.
 
You can use the screws on a receptacle to connect branch circuit wiring. Keep in mind though that if you are using multiwire branch cirucits the neutral wire can't be spliced in this manner, you would need to splice and pigtail the neutral or find another way. Take a look at 300.13(B).

Yes......grounded conductors on the silver colored terminals and the ungrounded conductors on the brass colored teminals feed in and out unless this a MWBC.
