I am the new saftey officer at a small manufacturing plant---I was asked to look into the requirements for testing the electrical outlets in our plant. Can somebody provide me with a reference that I can use for this.

For the most part, outlet testing is purely a preventive maintenance function. Schedule it as you see fit.

Typical GFCI outlets require testing on a once per month basis or prior to every use. There are now some self-monitoring GFCI outlets that remove that requirement.

I think you should invest in a few books; NFPA 70E?: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace? and Handbook Set,
and the 2009 Edition and NFPA 101?: Life Safety Code?, 2009 Edition.

Available at www.NFPA.org, I might be totally wrong but I’ll almost sure there is more to you new job that these book will help you understand!

Note that the handbook is an optional purchase but well worth it, it will explain, and define in plain english what
is being stated in sometime complex Article’s.

Does: UL 943, Page SA16, Figure 6, Item 8d and Clauses 8.2.7 through 8.2.9. still apply?
