Outlets have to be 6 feet away from a hot tub, but not a bathtub, right? What about a whirlpool tub in a bathroom? I read in NEC that outlets within 6 feet of a bathtub have to be gfi, so it is allowable? Why the difference between a hot tub and bath tub? Am I miss reading this? Thank you.

W@hirlpool tub also known as a hydromassage tub doesn't have any different requirements than a standard tub. Of course the power is a different issue

Here is an art. section on it
680.72 Other Electrical Equipment. Luminaires, switches,
receptacles, and other electrical equipment located in the same
room, and not directly associated with a hydromassage bathtub,
shall be installed in accordance with the requirements of Chapters
1 through 4 in this Code covering the installation of that
equipment in bathrooms.

Referring to the definitions in the front of 680, a spa or hot tub is generally NOT intended to be drained after every use. (The water is often treated with chemicals.) Receptacles need to be kept at least 6' away, and the requirements of 680 parts I and IV apply.

Hydro massage tubs are normally drained after every use. The requirements of 680 Part VII apply. You can have a receptacle within 6' of a hydro massage tub, but it must be GFCI protected.
