I'm a bit confused. I swear that I read somewhere in the 08 code that you are no longer allowed to have a receptical above a drop ceiling. But for some reason I can't find it :-?. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

You won't find it. You can have a receptacle above a ceiling but you cannot have anything plugged in it that has a rubber cord. Basically this is a service receptacle but cannot be used to plug in , say, a condensate pump.

The only reason why I ask is around here you look at hospitals and such and see cords for the tv's and what not coming through the drop ceiling from an outlet. And we just did a dentist office and my coworker had installed outlets above the drop ceiling so they can do the same thing. I just thought that I had read somewhere that outlets was not permitted above a drop ceiling. Thank you for clearing that up for me :)

Plenty of discussion on this topic on this forum with a lot of people disagreeing. I too see plenty of projectors plugged in above the ceiling; however I design with the receptacle flush to the grid.
