Typically not enough.

Seriously, are you talking about a 1000 sqft house built in 1920 or a 1600sqft one from 2020?

jim dungar:

Any. Define the house you choose to describe. But I suggest recent homes.

but they range in size from 800 to thousands of square feet...there is no possible answer to your question unless more information is provided.

Pick any specific home you choose or more than one. Then define its size, age, and any qther qualifiers you want, and provide some general results you might choose to present.

Gar, have you tried to come up with your own answer using the applicable code articles?

Last house I did had 80 something receptacles, 30 something SP switches, (14) 3-way switches, 109 recessed lights, 14-16 sconce lights, 5 chandeliers, 6 ceiling fans, 6 flood lights, one 200A main panel, one 200A subpanel, one generator interlock, one generator inlet, two ground rods

and a partridge in a pear tree!

Larry Fine:

I don't really need to define a typical home. You can pick on any size home and describe it.

Roger:

What has code to do my question other than define minimums.

General comments.

As one changes the size of a home the number of devices used will vary. Furthermore the number of devices in the 1910 and 1920s for a given size home would be grossly different than for today.

How much did it cost?

This was 2 levels with finished basement ADU apartment and 2-car garage on basement level, elevator, 400 amp service with 100a subpanel in ADU and 200a subpanel in 2nd floor hallway.

Total finished square footage was about 3,200Screenshot_20230624_133659_Invoice2go.jpg
