Good morning all,

I recently went to look at a job that requires the SEU cable to be ran about 40’ on the outside of the house. I know the code states about The maximum distance SEU can be ran inside, but I do not see anything about a maximum distance outside?

Is there a maximum distance SEU can be ran on the outside of the house is my question.

As long as it is protected from damage there is no rule in the NEC about distance. Not sure about your local amendments

What’s the maximum footage allowed inside the house before a disconnect. 3 or 6 feet !??
There is no NEC defined length. It's up to the local AHJ to decide what "nearest" is. Around here if you come straight in with the SE cable you're code compliant.

The` code states are near as possible to entering the building. Some areas have local amendments that allow certain distances. I have heard numbers like 10' in some areas. You need to check.

The problem with the term protection from damage is that it is very subjective to who is looking at it. If you are coming out of the top of a meter base I would think that you would be compliant, assuming you fasten the cable per code.
