erm, usually range/oven circuits dont exceed 50 amps, and 8/3 romex is legal to use on a 50 amp breaker

(assuming that the breaker lugs and device lugs are rated for 75 degrees centigrade) (which there is a 99 percent chance that they are, based on what ive seen and read)

No it isn't. 40 amp max.
It is treated as a 60 deg conductor, although the 90 deg column can be used for derateing.

I thought we were talking about ovens?

Ovens or ranges? Two completely different items that would affect the answer to the question.

Standard single ovens usually require a 20 amp circuit, sometimes a 30.

Double ovens usually require a 30 or 40 amp circuit.

I have never seen an oven require more than a 40 amp circuit. I have wired hundreds, of ovens.

I should have been more precise: I meant a range (an oven with 4 burners on top).

I don't do much residential, so I'm not that familiar with the terminology.

But I do know there aren't any sinks in the bathrooms :)

Okay: Have you ever seen a range that needed more than 40 amps?
