What you would get is a MMS that has a rating of 3HP. the amp rating is secondary to the HP rating, meaning that even if you think the amp rating is going to work, if it is not rated for 3HP or more, you cannot use it.

What you SET the OL trip for (or how you select OL heater elements) will depend on the specific instructions of that specific MMS that you purchase and how it is used, mounted etc..

I might add rated 3HP at 240 volts single phase.

You may find a 10 HP rated switch or contactor rated at 480 volts three phase still isn't sufficient when used on 240 volts single phase.

I would suggest looking in the Sq D Digest or an Allen Bradly catalog. both are full of sizing information and of course, read the notes
