Overhead High Voltage Lines

I have utility poles on plant site delivering 34.5kV and 12.47kV.

We are in the process of designing an outdoor process conveyor. Some of the poles/wires pose an interference.

Solution: Route overhead lines underground in a couple of places via duct banks. Underground runs would be approx. 150 feet.

I understand that the utility owns the lines. By going up and down with lines...do I need to be concerned with power quality, code implications (I believe utility companies have their own code), maintenance?

Is this standard practice...am I being too paranoid?

First you need to find out where you take ownership of the power system, if the utillity owns all of the lines and you are planning on paying them to do the job then you can move on to worrying about the recession or something.

Now if you own part of the system then there are some concerns about maintenance of the cables but not a big deal, let us know if you have any ownership and we will discuss from there.

If the power distribution lines are owned by the utility then find out what requirements they have. If you are going to design a duct bank for these lines then you need to design based on Neher-McGrath or the IEEE Standard 399 (Brown Book) to make sure you account for the insulating properties of the soil

Power lines are owned by utility.

They will be performing work.

Thanks for the IEEE reference.

I am not so paranoid anymore...for now!
