Good evening Everyone,

I was removing overhead lighting today and guys I'm very confused!!!.I never seen something like this. I did not see any grounding conductor on the old overhead cable and they pick up the neutral conductor from the messenger cable is this correct? Should I bring 3 wire conductor 1 Ungrounded, 1 neutral and 1 grounding conductor from the panel feeding those light? I Also thinking to drive a ground rod just to pick up the metal messager cable for lightning protection. Please advise.

best regards,

Yordanys.

When I use that kind of overhead wire, I use the messenger as the EGC, but never as the neutral.

Yes, yow should have insulated conductors for grounded as well as ungrounded conductors.

We're not the power company.
