I am updating a home that has been sold. Along with upgrading the existing 100 amp. service in the home I need to relocate the drop to a 20 amp. subpanel in a detached garage (30 feet away from the home). It is currentlly feed with 3 wire overhead which is deterioted and needs to be replaced. There is no plumbing, etc. in the garage. I'm thinking 12/3 with ground overhead to new weatherhead and pipe to subpanel. My question is what type of wire to install. Is any outdoor rated wire ok for this install or do I need something else? I know this is a probably a dump question but my experience has been mainly new construction with everything underground and I havn't been down this road before. Any help and/or code reference would be appreciated.
