overload relay

Below is a photo of an electrical enclosure on a lathe. Sorry about the quality of the picture.
Below the contactors is a module with a dial labled rc amps 4, 5, 6. I assume this is an overload relay. Both motor and contactors connect to it.
Im not sure how the numbers actually relate to overload. For example, are they amps above a certain threshold?

Yes, the numbers on the dial are AMP settings. They are normally set equal to the FLA on the motor.
