I have been told they are not available with an incandescent bulb. I imagine if that is true it is because there is not enough room to disipate the heat with insulation around the can.

Lithonia L3R is a 3" can that is IC rated depending on the trim. The opening, as I understand, is 4".

Well, it exists! You made me look and I see it with my own two eyes. That is a 4" remodel IC can.
Of course you can only lamp it with a 30w r20 or a 35 w par 20. Pretty much useless as far as light output goes.
