I have a small medical build out that I am working on. They have one oxygen room where they have a oxygen manifold to distribute oxygen to the patients. They also store there oxygen there. The prints do not call out for any special installation. Are oxygen rooms considered a hazardous location?

oxygen room

I did a small storage room a few years back and it did not require anything special, exhaust fan and receptacle was switched with the lights. The inspector brought this concern up but after a phone call everything was approved per the drawings.

I am not sure, but my thought is that oxegen is combustable gas. but i could not find a good refernce.

Oxygen is not a combustible gas.

For combustion you need fuel and oxygen, so oxygen by itself is not a hazardous material.

Basically, oxygen increases the potential volatility of the hazard but, in absence of a fuel, does not itself create the hazard.

The room as described in the OP does not require classification. Now if they also stored Flammable Anesthetics (see the definition in 517.2) that would be a much different story.
